Cypress Fairbanks Schools – Berry Center
The District 10 championships brought together wrestlers from one of Texas’ fastest growing school districts over the last ten years. These high schools were: Bridgeland, Cy Creek, Cy Fair, Cy Falls, Cy Lakes, Cy Park, Cy Ranch, Cy Ridge, Cy Springs, Cy Woods, Jersey Village, and Langham Creek.
There were 139 boys and 112 girls participating in the tournament. Of those girls, 25 of them were listed in the most recent WrestlingTexas 6A state Rankings. In addition, there were 20 boys also ranked in the top twenty of their weight class.
On to the Boys’ action.
Christopher Stiles of Cy Ranch HS rode his 1st seed to the championship winning via pin in both the semifinals, over Nghiem Do of Cy Falls (5:07) and Josiah Servin of Cy Falls in the finals (4:49). Do ended up in 4th place, losing to Dreagan Flores of Cy Creek in the consolation finals. Stiles was losing 2-0 going into the final period, where Servin chose neutral. Stiles scored a takedown to even the score and scored the fall seven seconds later.
At 113 lbs. Mahir Ali brought his 42-9 record and the first seed into the tournament, and won the championship with the strength of three pins. In the quarterfinals he put Jackson Snow of Cy Woods away at 3:30 after building an 11-2 lead. In the semis, he met Diego Morales-Ayala of Cy Falls. Two wild periods had Ali leading 10-9 before ending the match with a pin at 4:00. In the finals, Ali met Kamren Rucker of Bridgeland, who had earlier pinned the 2nd seed Drew Steward of Langham Creek. Ali had a 10-3 lead going into the third when Rucker chose down and never got up, getting pinned by Ali after making the wrestling no-no of reaching back and getting caught with an Ali half.
Kevin Mcaleavey of Cy Creek carries on the CFISD Mcaleavey name by pinning his way through the bracket, showing he deserved the 1st seed. Mcaleavey met Langham Creek’s Harrison Speer in the finals. Speer defeated #4 seed Joseph Lopez of Cy Woods as well as #2 seed David Ortega of Cy Ranch to earn his way to take-on Mcaleavey. Mcaleavey made sure that Speer would not be able to continue his winning ways as he used the first period to put on a takedown clinic, scoring four takedowns, and one nearfall before sealing the deal with a pin at 1:56
