Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Dominates District 15-5A Boys’ Wrestling Championship with Stellar Performances

The District 15-5A boys’ wrestling championship, held over two days at Corpus Christi Carroll High School, delivered intense competition and captivating matches across various weight classes. In the 106-pound category, Isaiah Deleon of Corpus Christi King showcased his skills by securing 1st place with a decisive victory over Esteban Vela of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial in a match that ended with a major decision (MD 10-1). The 3rd place match in this weight class saw Riley Lopez of Corpus Christi Ray emerging victorious over Miguel DeAsis of Corpus Christi Carroll with a major decision (MD 18-10). 

Moving to the 113-pound division, Luis Vela of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial claimed the top spot with a fall in 4:41 against Isaac Guerrero of Edcouch-Elsa. The 3rd place match in this category featured a closely contested bout, with Carlos Guzman of Corpus Christi Moody securing a narrow victory over Aiden Tamayo of Brownsville Veterans Memorial (Dec 4-2). 

In the 120-pound weight class, Alfredo Campos of Edcouch-Elsa triumphed over Carmen Calderone of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial with a close decision (Dec 15-14) to clinch the 1st place position. The 3rd place match in this category witnessed David Oliva of Corpus Christi Ray defeating Adrian Cumpian of Harlingen South with a major decision (MD 15-7). 

The 126-pound division showcased a quick victory in the 1st place match, with Aidan Rodriguez of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial securing a fall in just 20 seconds against Ethan Gonzales of Edinburg Vela. In the 3rd place match of this weight class, Adrian Salinas of Edcouch-Elsa emerged victorious over Jaden Ayala of Corpus Christi King with a fall in 3:54. 

Moving on to the 132-pound category, Nehemiah Washington of Edinburg Vela dominated the 1st place match with a major decision (MD 14-2) against Adrian Zavala of Donna. The 3rd place match in this division saw Nathen Chino of Corpus Christi King securing victory over Gael Sifuentes of Brownsville Veterans Memorial with a fall in 2:01. 

The 138-pound division featured an exhilarating 1st place match where Diego Carmona of Edinburg Vela secured victory over Donicio Zavala of

Donna with a close decision (Dec 13-11). In the 3rd place match, Davey Ramirez of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial triumphed over Karloz Deleon of Corpus Christi King with a decision (Dec 6-1). 

The 144-pound category witnessed an impressive performance by Amaziah Aguirre of Corpus Christi Miller, who claimed 1st place by defeating Angel Garza of Edcouch-Elsa with a decision (Dec 8-3). The 3rd place match in this weight class featured Quinn Barrera of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial securing a victory over Rafe Ausdemore of Corpus Christi King with a fall in 2:34. 

In the 150-pound weight class, Josiah Zaragoza of Corpus Christi Moody secured the 1st place position by defeating Jonatan Munoz of Weslaco East with a fall in 2:42. Bradley O`Donnell of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial claimed 3rd place by defeating Isaiah Rojas of Corpus Christi King with a major decision (MD 9-1)….
