  • Allen HS Lady Eagles faced College Park Girls in a wrestling match
  • The match featured ranked wrestlers from both teams
  • Allen dominated the early matches with pins and technical falls
  • College Park made a comeback with wins from unranked wrestlers
  • College Park ultimately won the match, showcasing the depth of their team

On Tuesday morning, the #1 ranked Allen HS Lady Eagles travelled to Conroe to take on the #2 College Park Girls.  Both teams are coming off of championships at their first tournaments of the year.  Allen won the title at the Lady Talon tournament at Eaton HS, while College Park brought home the gold at the Arlington Martin Reece’s Warrior tournament.  Both teams won their titles handily.

Today’s match had four of Allen’s five ranked wrestlers set to compete, with the exception of Juliana LeFort.  College Park had all six of their ranked wrestlers competing as well.  In previewing the matchups, it would seem that the team whose ranked wrestlers earned the falls, as they were expected to, and if the three pairings of unranked wrestlers could get their team big wins, then they would win in the end.

The match started out with Allen’s #11 ranked Channing Travis at 100 lbs. and Faith Washington at 107 receiving forfeits.

At 114 lbs., #13 ranked Kylie Smith of College Park and Allen’s #3 (107) ranked Mattilyn Givens squared off in the circle. Smith struck first with a 3-point takedown when she was able to come around and pop her out of a Givens headlock. Smith had the makings of a good cradle, but when she pulled Givens back, her hip was down, and Givens kicked up and ended on top, earning the pin at 1:38.
