Arlington Martin’s Isaak Arevalo Secures Coveted Triple Crown; Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Champ

Isaak Arevalo finally got the triple crown of titles he long coveted.

The Arlington Martin standout — and now a three-time UIL state champion — won a pair of titles at the Texas USA Wrestling State Freestyle and Greco championships held May 11-12 in Fort Worth.

“I’ve been working on this triple crown since my freshman year,” Arevalo said. “It’s when you win Folkstyle then Greco-(Roman) and then freestyle. The previous years I haven’t done so well in Greco-Roman and freestyle. This year, I was able to pull it off and get the win. It is a really good accomplishment.

Martin won the junior boys 126-pound title in Greco-Roman with a 5-0 mark by representing Warrior Trained Wrestling — based out of Arlington.

He pinned two foes and then won three by technical falls on the way to the Greco title — including a win over 3F Wrestling’s Jonah Arellano, 18-9, in the finals.

That matchup happened again in the freestyle bracket.

Arevalo was 5-0 in the freestyle bracket — also at 126 — and tech-falled every opponent. In the finals, he won 16-4 against Arellano. It was his third straight state title for the Warriors.

Back in February, Arevalo won 16-3 against Arellano — from Austin Lake Travis — in the UIL Class 6A finals.

“I could tell he wanted that match back as you know anyone would,” Arevalo said. “It was good to pull off the win against him both times.”

His freshman year he won UIL and then had the Greco-Roman title but lost in the freestyle bracket. Last year, during a one-day tournament, he lost in the finals in both brackets.

He qualified for the state duals and Fargo Nationals with the performance.

Arevalo said now his focus goes back to school as he works on his grades and his grade point average. The junior is already eyeing a future in college.

What’s in store for college? He said he already has a few offers and places he might visit this summer…
