Allen. Gets it done, again. 14 Team State Titles in a Row

CYPRESS — No. 14 in a row provided some tense moments but Allen found a way to bring home another championship trophy from the UIL State Wrestling Championships that wrapped up Saturday night at The Berry Center of Northwest Houston.

Allen finished with 201 ½ points to hold off Arlington Martin, which had 186, in what was a season-long collision course between the two Dallas-area schools.

Ten different Eagles brought home medals and the team’s added yet another trophy to the already impressive collection. 

Martin led by 1 ½ points after the semifinals early Saturday before surging ahead to claim 

Allen won all three of its championship matches, while Martin went 2-2 but a head-to-head match made a big swing.

No. 2-ranked Caden Brown rallied to beat Martin’s Julian Garnica, 5-4, in the 144-pound championship match. Brown (27-4) lost to Garnica in the State Dual Tournament last month.

“Obviously it is a big rivalry against Martin and that kid at dual state, he whooped me,” Brown said. “He brought the pace in the first and second periods. Coach (Jerry Best) looked at me and said escape and takedown and you win. That was all that was going through my head. I got up and then I got the takedown.”…
