A Look at the 2021-22 Grapevine Wrestling Team

We’re starting to dive into season previews here and this one is from Grapevine High School’s Matt Criner.

Grapevine has a deep squad this season and expect to be in the hunt for a district and maybe even a regional title this year.

106-Logan Vorachard
113-Kevin Contreras/Josh Ramsey-Contreras finished as runner-up at Little Rock.
120-Gabe Aldaco-Regional Placer
126-Cole Vaughn
132-Louden Park (will compete with Cole Vaughn for the 126-pound spot) We’ve also got 3-4 others that may creep in here. Park was undefeated in Junior High last season and won the Stockyard Stampede last season.

Coaching Staff:

Head Coach-Matt Criner, 6th year at GHS. Grew up wrestling in Oklahoma, attended OSU. Previous coaching stints have been at Arlington Martin and South Grand Prairie


Asst Coach-Ryan Martin, former head coach at GHS. State champ from Tuttle, Ok, won an NCAA national title in wrestling at UCO.


Asst Coach-Brent Johnson grew up wrestling in Wisconsin. He will also be the head coach of one of the middle school teams.


Asst Coach-Esther Splawn. Will be the head coach of one of the middle school teams.


Volunteer Coach
-Johnny Letourneau, helps out with all parts of the program, 3-time state champ in wrestling from Kansas


Volunteer Coach-Wesley Hollingsworth, helps out with all parts of the program, NCWA Finalist and All-American in wrestling from East Carolina University


Youth Coach-Jonathon Jackson. Will be the head coach of our Mustang-Panther Youth Wrestling Program
