The 2026 Junior Boys Freestyle Nationals is complete.

Texas closes out with 3 All-Americans, all in the 16U division.  The junior boys have been alternating placing years in freestyle since 2019, and this is the year for none.  The 16U boys have only missed 4 years not having a placer going clear back to the year 2000.  Greco Roman should present more.

Juniors Boys

132lbs-Charlie Trujillo through his 4 matches on the championship side only gave up 6 points in his 2 techfalls and a fall before getting techfalled himself in the round of 16.  Trujillo was the only junior wrestler to win his last match of day 2 on the consolation side to stay alive for day 3.  In the consolation sub quarters Trujillo couldn’t quite get through losing 10-8 decision keeping him 2 wins away from All-American.

132lbs-Charlie Trullio a graduated senior going to Brown University is a 3x, 3rd place state finisher and 4x state qualifier from Vandegrift High School in Austin.

16U Boys

The 16U boys, all state champs in their freshman year.  Mason Millsaps of Conroe Woodlands College Park, and Maddox Fields and Vinny Ferrari both of Melissa High School

Below we go through day 3.

126lbs-Mason Milsaps through 4 matches into the quarter finals has only given up 1 point on his way to 4 tech falls and didn’t wrestle past the first period until his round of 16.  In the quarterfinals Milsaps was up against a Pennsylvania wrestler in Arthur Reyes, a freshman himself.  Milsaps kept it close in the first period but gets techfalled right at the end of the 2nd period.

Milsaps on the consolation side now needs one more win to All-American.  Not only does he get 1 more win, Milsaps gets 3 more wins not giving up put 1 point to make the 3rdf place match where he got a chance to redeem the earlier loss to Reyes.  This time the score was a lot closer with Milsaps having to settle for 4th place.

Fun Fact, Vinny Ferrari beat Reyes at Preseason Nationals in the Championship match in TB 9-4 to win 1st place at 132lbs.

138lbs-Maddox Fields had only given up 2 points until his round of 16 loss of an 8-3 decision in his first 4 matches. On the consolation side Fields got the win by decision.  In the consolation sub quarters Field’s got another win by decision, then yet another by decision to make All-American.  Fields then lost his metal rounds match in a 6-4 decision to wrestle for 7th place where he met up with the California wrestler Gullien Holguin, who beat him in the round of 16 in the 8-3 decision.  This time the score was closer, but Holguin gives Field another loss and Fields must settle for 8th place.

144lbs-Vinny Ferrari through 4 matches into the quarterfinals has only given up 2 points in his 4 tech falls.  In the quarter finals up against an Ohio wrestler, a freshman Gavin Cantera who placed 2nd at state. Ferrari gets a 10-5 decision to secure his All-American statis and put him into the semifinals. Ferrari was up against another freshman #2 seed Jeremiah Hayes of Illinois who was looking for a triple crown.  Ferrari doing the same as Cantera wins 10-5 by decision to put himself in the finals for the large stop sign.

In the championship match Ferrari would meet Reece Movahead of Pennsylvania.  Movahead scores first with a takedown and that was how the first period ended.  Ferrari gives up another takedown to start the 2nd period and that’s how the match ends with Ferrari settling for 2nd place.
