While a few teams were out of town, the Eastwood Invitational hosted most of El Paso in its beautiful facility – running on 8 mats for day one and coming down to 6 for day two.

There were 24 boys and 24 girls teams, including out-of-towners such as Las Cruces, Chaparral, Gadsden, Organ Mountain,  Santa Teresa from New Mexico, and even Arlington Martin for the girls! Things ran smoothly, getting out early on both days despite having 350 participants.

This finals match was one that brought some oohs and aahs, ending the third period tied at 6-6. Miguel Solis ended up winning in sudden victory with a takedown over Estrada of Franklin. These two are continued competitors from last year, where they saw each other a number of times throughout the season. In last year’s 1-6A districts, Estrada won, while a week later at regionals, Solis ended up beating him on the backside of the bracket for a spot at state. (One thing to note is that Braulio bumped up this week, due to #2 Ian Abdallah’s absence.)
