7 Women Place at Junior Nationals

With 17 Texas women wrestlers competing 7 of them place top 8.  Below is a small recap  of how all 17 wrestler faired.

50kgs
Samara Chavez #1 seed here won her first 2 matches by tech fall not giving up any points.  Then got upset in the quarter finals by the same wrestler who beat Nunez in the round of 16. Chavez wins her blood round match to put her into the Consi-4.  Having made the consolation semi finals Chavez took a loss to wrestle for 5th place where she got the win by fall.
Victoria Nunez like said earlier, after winning her first match lost in the round of 16.  Winning on the consolation side to the blood round where she lost by tech-fall.
Victoria Acosta went 0-2.
Amanda McAleavey won her 1st match to then face Emily Shilson the #1 ranked wrestler in about every category, although the #2 seed.  McAleavey lost to Shilson and then dropped a decision in the blood round.
Madison Brown won her first 2 matches to get to the quarter finals only to get the same fate as McAleavey against Shilson losing by tech fall.  Brown dropped her match in the blood round as well.

53kgs
Ashley Morris ran into #8 senior ranked Tiare Ikei of Hawaii her first match in the round of 16 and took the loss but came back winning all the way to the blood round where she fell short of the medal round.

55kgs-No Texas Wrestlers

57kgs
Xochitl Mota Pettis was the #1 seed here tech falling her way to the semi finals. Then not giving up a single point on into the finals.  Mota-Pettis in her 2nd national finals dropped an 8-3 decision to place 2nd
Mea Mohler the other Texas wrestler at this weight won her first match before dropping to the consolation side where she won her blood round making the medal matches.  Mohler lost her next match forcing her to wrestle for 7th place where she tech fall her way to a win.

59kgs- This weight had Texas wrestlers right out of the gate battling each other.
Devin Patton and Isabella Gonzalez both had first round byes and met up in the round of 16 with the win going to Patton.  Patton then lost in the quarter finals to the same wrestler that beat Madison Sandquist in her first match of the day this puts Patton up next against Suarez where Patton takes her 2nd loss exiting before the medal round.
Jordan Suarez was on the top side of the bracket. And had a bye the first round.  Suarez lost the next match to top ranked Figuerio by decision putting her to the consolation side where Suarez won her next match over highly rated Estrada by a 6-4 decision putting her up against Patton in the blood round where she wins by fall to reach the medal rounds.  Suarez then reels off 3 more wins to place 3rd beating the wrestler that had previously beating Patton and Sandquist “Jimenez”
Isabella Gonzalez  as previous mentioned lost her first match against Patton as well as her next match.
Madison Sandquist after losing her first round defaulted out.

62kgs-No Texas Wrestlers

65kgs
Kayla Munoz was the only wrestler here losing her first 2 matches.

68kgs
Leilani Hernandez was in a round robin bracket here with only 5 wrestlers total.  Hernandez went 3-1 giving her the 2ndplace finish.

72kgs
Destynie Pacheco with a win was able to reach the medal rounds to place 6th

76kgs- Only 6 girls in this bracket but 2 Texas wrestlers along with top ranked national women.  Brittyn Corbishley was on the top side of the bracket with a first round bye sitting in the semifinals. Corbishley dropped her semifinal match to top ranked Kelly putting her to the consolation semifinals where she pinned her way into the 3rd place match.  Corbishley losing 8-6 gets the fall to win 3rd place.
Kaylynn Albrecht was on the bottom side of the bracket without a bye winning her first match then dropping her semifinal match as well.  Albrecht got the techfall in the consolation semifinals as well matching the 2 Texas girls up for 3rd place where as stated above Albrecht was winning when she gave up the fall to place 4th.
