6A Girls Championship Recap

Here we go, the ladies never disappoint. Lots of close matches, upsets, twists, and turns. And yes, prior to contrary belief you don’t have to be on a State Championship team to win an individual title. 12 ladies left the Berry Center with a mission accomplished and a lot more with goals unfulfilled. Some exceeded their expectations, and some fell short. Either way, you should hold your head high as you competed. For those who toed the line for the last time. It was an honor to watch you grow and succeed. For the Parents and Coaches who dedicated and committed so much, your efforts have made strong ass young ladies ready to conquer the world. So, without further ado, let’s get into the Team race.

Tied 1st-El Paso Eastwood, 67.5 pts

Getting 2 in the finals and 1 champion, and 3 of the 4 qualifiers making the podium Eastwood almost pulled it off and upset Allen, with two returning sophomores they are primed for another run next year. Top Performers: Alexis Montes 120 1st, Paulina Butler 138 2nd, and Jadina Mata 165 5th.

Tied 1st-Allen,67.5 pts

1 in the finals with 1 champion and a pair of 3rds. Wasn’t enough to take over Eastwood. With all their state qualifiers returning next year they will be tough to beat. Top Performers: Jasmine Robinson 152 1st, Grace Romans 100 3rd, and Ester Peters 235 3rd.

3rd-Cypress Ranch, 61 pts

Qualifying 7 and placing 4 wasn’t enough to get the top spot, but only a few wins from taking the 1st place slot. If they could have got 1 or 2 in the finals it would have made this a close race for first. With 6 of 7 returning qualifiers next year, they will be extremely tough to beat and I suspect will be the favorite to win it all. Top Dogs: Raylan Ross 165 3rd, Mariana Bozo 132 5th, Mariah Smith 126 6th, and Sara Garza 145 6th.

And now the Championship Finals

100

#2 Jubilee Rendon, El Paso Franklin

Dec 3-0

#3 Arianna Rodriguez, South Grand Prairie

Nice hand fighting and take-down defense by both ladies in the first period but no points were scored and started the 2nd 0-0. Rodriguez had a nice ankle pick to start the 2nd but Rendon countered and fought her way for the go behind take down. An escape in the 3rd sealed it for Rendon and a State Championship….
