6A Boys Championship Finals Break Down

We got the to see the #1 ranked Dominic Chavez of Arlington Martin vs #2 ranked Braxton Brown battle a full 6 minutes with the only point being scored was an escape by Brown.  #2 Brown wins a 1-0 decision and his first state championship as a freshman.

Again we see the #1 & #2 ranked wrestlers battle, this time the #1 ranked wrestler Noah Gochberg of Austin Vandegrift holds on to a 7-6 decision over #2 Gabe Martinez of Allen.  This was the 1st state championship for freshman Gochberg. Martinez betters his last years 4th place finish to take 2nd place.

The toughest weight in the tournament I believe. We saw #2 Jordan Strmiska of Austin Westlake and #4 Christian Moreno,  2 Region 4 wrestlers both from 3F Wrestling Club have a rematch of District and Regional Championship finals matches which went Strmiska’s way both times.  The State finals match went Moreno’s way with a 3-1 decision.  It was a 6 minute scramble.  Strmiska is now a 2x  state finalist and Moreno finally gets his 1st state championship after placing 2nd last year.

The #1 ranked Logan Brown of Allen vs #2 ranked Isaiah Delgado met here.  All season long they both kept changing places in the rankings between #1 and #2 with Brown keeping the #1 the last few weeks.  Brown lived up to his rank by defeating Delgado by 9-6 decision.  This gives Brown his 1st state championship to go with his previous 3x placings. Brown said the eye opener for him this season was last years finals loss to Jack Skudlarcyzk .  Delgado caps his career with 3x finalist and 2x state champ.

#1 James McClain Green of El Paso Franklin took care of business by majoring freshman and #9 ranked DeShawn Cosby of Schertz Clemens.  Cosby knocked off #3, #4, and #7 ranked wrestlers on his way to the championship finals match.  This makes Green a 2x State Champ and still undefeated for the year.

#1 Trent Dooley of Allen gets by #2 Joaquin Bautista of Houston Cy Lakes in a 5-2 decision to give Dooley his 1st state championship to go with his 3rd place finish last season.  Bautista betters his last season 5th place finish with a 2nd place finish.

#1 Daniel Manibog of Katy made quick work of #3 Elise Brown Ton of Allen with a 1st period fall in 51 seconds to claim his 2nd state championship to go with his 5th place finish as a freshman.  Brown Ton who went from JV to Varsity in one season debuts for a 2nd place finish in his sophomore year.

This was a Region 1 finals rematch of #1 Cameron Haddock of Southlake Carroll and #2 Eric Two lance of Arlington Martin.  The match went into SV where Haddock  wins his 1st state championship after finishing 2nd last season.   Two Lance betters his 6th place finish a year ago for 2nd.

This was the 152 pound rematch from last season state finals match with #1 Juwan Robinson of Allen and #2 Samual Mora of Tascosa.  It was a close match again all the way to the end when Robison takes down Mora to his back and gets the fall with 1 sec left in the match.  This makes Robison a 4x state finalist and a 3x state champion.  Mora takes 2nd for the 2nd year in a row.

#1 Braeden Redlin, enough said?? Redlin pinned his way through districts and regionals and was finally slowed down in the semi finals but went on to face #2 Adam Kilgore of Arlington Bowie in the state finals match.  Redlin captures his 4th state championship making him only the 3rd boys wrestler in UIL history to do so.  Kilgore settles for first state place at 2nd.

This finals match was #3 Kimball Christensen of Conroe Woodlands College Park and #6 Tereus Henry of El Paso Montwood.  After an exciting 6 minute scramble Henry came out with a 9-8 decision for the win. Henry was the only returning state qualifier here.  Christensen was an alternate last season.

This was all #1 AJ Ferrari of Allen here who tech failed or pinned every one he faced in Texas this year including #3 Josh Wilson of Houston Cy Fair  for his 2nd state championship.  Ferrari is still undefeated in Texas with only 1 loss in his career nationally.  Wilson didn’t qualify last season and takes 2nd.

This weight saw the battle of #2 Sean DelMonte of Rockwall and #3 Jacob Doddridge of Southlake Carroll battle for the championship.  Just when it looked like Doddridge was going to reclaim his #1 ranking, DelMonte takes him down and gets the fall with 2 seconds left in the period to claim his 1st state championship.  Doddridge betters his 4th place finish last year and settles for 2nd.

#1 Desmon Williams of Rockwall met up with #9 Johnny Green of Allen.  Williams finally get past an Allen wrestler to get his 1st state championship. Williams took 2nd last year.  This was Green’s first trip to state.
