6A Dual State Finals Recap

Congrats to the Allen Eagles on winning their 8th consecutive Dual State Championship at Klein High School in Houston. The Eagles defeated Arlington Martin for the 2nd year in a row with a Dual Score of 42-24.

Weight by weight, here’s the highlights:

132lb- #9 ranked Tre Moore of Allen squared off against #4 ranked Tanner Kuketz who bumped up from 126lb. Kuketz wasted no time in getting the first takedown, with Tre Moore reversing in the first period, 2nd period  Kuketz added 9 more points making it a route at 11-2 with the 3rd period still to go, Moore choose neutral position, and both scrambled most of the whole 3rd period and with approximately 17 sec left, Moore hit Kuketz in a headlock and time runs out before he can get the fall, but with 5 points added final score was a decision at 11-7 Kuketz.

138lb-#7 ranked David Washington of Allen who has been coming on strong in the second half of the season, winning the Cushing Oklahoma Tournament the previous week, faced off with #3 ranked David Reyes of Martin. Reyes quickly got a takedown, Washington got an escape, and in the 2nd period Washington chose bottom, escaped opened up and took control of the match with a takedown and 2 different nearfall points to finish 2nd period 8-2, Reyes took the down position in the 3rd and got an escape, taken down by Washington and after a scramble the match ended in a 10-4 decision.

145lb -I think this was the turning match of the Dual, State Champ and #1 ranked Juwan Robinson takes the Mat and Martin sends out State Champ, and #1 ranked @ 132, Kennedy Monday. Again Martin gets the first takedown, Robinson gets the escape to end the 1st period. 2nd period Monday chooses down position, after some scrambling Robinson is able to catch Monday for 3 nearfall points, period ends 4-2, 3rd period Robinson choose bottom, escapes quickly, Monday gives up a penalty point and Robinson gets another takedown and rides Monday out for the 8-2 decision.

152lb- #2 ranked @ 145,  Dylanger Potter for Martin and #1 ranked Braedan Redlin for Allen, Again Martin gets a quick early takedown, and Potter goes to work with the legs in, finally Redlin got an escape and his own takedown with 2 nearfall points to end the 1st period 5-2. 2nd period, Redlin chooses down, and after several attempts by Potter trying to get the legs in to stretch Redlin out, Redlin gets a reversal and rides Potter out the rest of the period, 7-2. 3rd period Potter choose top position, Redlin got a reversal, Potter gets an escape and ends the match 9-3.

160lb-Martin’s Jose Taylor ranked #1 and Allen’s John McCabe. ranked #2 – a battle for the #1 spot -started the 1st period uneventful with no points scored, Taylor took the down position in the 2nd and an escape and ends the 2nd period, 3rd period McCabe takes the down position, quickly gets an escape, after battling for the rest of the 3rd period its Taylor with the last second takedown for the win 3-1, #1 an #2 rankings will stay the same.

170lb- #2 Evan Hackett for Allen faced off against unranked Oscar Gonzales for Martin, Hackett starts the scoring with a takedown in the first, and several attempts to turn Gonzales, the period ends 2-0. 2nd period  Hackett gets a reversal and nearfall for 3 on 2 different attempts before the pin in the 2nd period

182lb- Martin Forfeits to Dalton Miller of Allen–TS 21-6

195lb- #4 ranked Mark Inglehart of Allen goes up against unranked Mark Holder of Martin who was bumped up from 182, Inglehart gets the first period takedown and rides out the period, 2nd period Inglehart chooses down position, gets an escape and turns a takedown into a fall.  TS 27-6

220lb-Martin Forfiets to Allen’s  Patrick Bryan. TS 33-6

285lb- #3 ranked Nico Manzonelli of Allen faced unranked Erik Anderson of Martin, Manzonelli gets a takedown and 3 nearfall in the first period, 2nd period Manzonelli from the bottom position gets an escape and a takedown to Anderson back for the fall. TS 39-6

106lb-#3 ranked Noah Yeamans of Allen and unranked Brett Taylor of Martin who  will be ranked after today performance battled the first period with no score, 2nd period Taylor choose the down position, Yeamans gets 3 point nearfall, to end the 2nd, 3rd period Yeamans choose top position, Taylor gets an escape and thats how the match ended 3-1  TS 42-6

Allen with the Dual already won forfeits the remaining 3 weights, 113, 120, 126 and retains their #1 team ranking

Southlake Carroll  and Lake Highlands who was a surprise to many winning their pool over Franklin, Klein Oak, and Cinco Ranch. battled for the 3 place trophy.

132lb- Angel Hernandez of LH gets the fall over Patrick Laborge SLC.  TS 6-0

138lb- #6 ranked Cameron Haddock of SLC ties it back up with a fall over Jack Smitham of LH.  TS 6-6

145lb-Carlos Zumwait of LH gets a Tech Fall over Reece Witcher of SLC to pull back ahead. TS 11-6

152lb- LH Socrates Salinas has been coming on to the radar with several wins but hasn’t matched up with any ranked guys except #1 ranked Redlin from Allen which was a great match although Redlin won 12-1. Salinas met up with Aron Lindberg and won with a Major decision of 12-1. TS 15-6

160lb-#3 ranked Jack Duval of SLC picks up the fall in the 3 period over LH Chris Kinsella.   TS 15-12

170lb- #8 ranked  Adam Lindberg of SLC  edges out a decision over Dominque Neroes 5-3 and ties up the team score.  TS 15-15

182lb-Zach Francis of SLC picks up a quick fall over Colt Brock of LH to go ahead in the team score. TS 15-21 (SLC)

195lb-#3 ranked Twquan Clayton of LH returns the quick fall over Jake Johnson of SLC to even the score back. TS 21-21

220lb-Miguel Baltazar of LH also gets a 1st period Fall over Jacob Doddridge of SLC. TS 27-21 (LH)

285lb- Lucas Tribble ranked #8 of SLC got the fall in the 3rd period over Ty Meara of LH. TS 27-27

106lb- #9 ranked Ian Stroud ran into trouble with unranked Brendan Noetzel of SLC  who had 12 points on Stroud before getting the fall ion the 3rd period. TS 27-33 (SLC)

113lb-Nolan Wheeler of SLC picks up a quick first period fall over Andrew Nixon of LH.  TS 27-39 (SLC)

120lb- #7 ranked Daniel Kidd of LH put on a take down clinic on Clay Vincent of SLC winning by Major 17-5  TS 31-39 (SLC)

126lb-Andrei Steinjann of SLC wins in the 1st period by fall over Max Haytor of LH  final score.
