5A Boys Road to State 152-285

We continue where we left off on the 5A boys starting at 152

152

This weight only has 2 returning state placers. #1 Chase Warden of Dripping Springs returning state champ and #3 Jared Gallego of Canyon Randall returning 3rd place finisher.  Both wrestlers are up from 145 last year where Warden defeated Gallego in the semi finals.

Region I Has, you guessed it! Another El Paso Eastwood wrestler, this one state qualifier Julian Flores ranked #2 under Warden with Gallego of Randall the #3 ranked wrestler and returning state placer.  This should be the finals match at regionals however 3 other El Paso wrestlers are in the mix with #8 Xavier Martin of Bel Air, #9 Que Jon Frias-Merritt of El Paso High, and #13 Ivan Regalado of Hanks so we will have to see.  there is always a sleeper emerging from the panhandle.

Region II #5 Colby Morse of Argyle a returning state qualifier leads the way here.  #11 Roosevelt Green of Dallas Kimball is the next highest ranked wrestler then follows Michael Breslav of Frisco Liberty, Houston Dietrich of Colleyville Heritage, and Jake Qin of Frisco Lebanon Trail at 16,17, & 18

Region III wrestlers are spread out with Alex Vislosky of Lucas Lovejoy the #4 ranked wrestler and returning state qualifier . Vislosky is up from 138 of last year.  #7 DeAngelo Taylor of Rosenberg Lamar Cons was a state alternate. #12 Brian Ramirez of Carrollton Turner, #14 Connor Morin of Carrollton Creekview, and #15 Josiah Bernhardt of Katy Paetow make up the remaining ranked wrestlers.

Region IV Has 4 ranked guys here with returning state champ Warden.  Warden shouldn’t have any trouble but #6 Chandler Young of Corpus Christi Ray, #10 Samuel De Los Santos of SA Brooks Acd the lone freshman , and #19 James Valadez of Corpus Christi King am sure will give it their all.  The Valley always has a tough wrestler make it through regionals as well.

Unless someone drops weight for districts we will have 3 returning state placers and 1 state champ at this weight.  #1 Micah Wiginton of Pflugerville Weiss is the returning state champ from 152 and #2 Jaydn Heaton of Canyon Randall is the returning state runner up at this weight.  #3 Ralph Rucker of Lucas Lovejoy and #4 Preston Hass of Frisco Reedy are the 5th and 6th placers at this very weight last year where Rucker won by fall over Hass in the quarter finals and then 1-0 decision for 5th place.

Region I is loaded with 8 ranked wrestlers so if #2 Heaton is gonna make a return trip he has quite a group to go through starting with #5 Diego Falcon of Dumas a state qualifier and #6 Shayden Muzio of El Paso Eastlake.  #7 Darren Carpenter of Vernon and #9 Tommy Calderon of El Paso Del Valle are both returning state qualifiers.  Further down the line you got Damian Gallegos of El Paso Jefferson, Jagger Chadek of Azle, Colby Keller of Chisholm Trail.  There is at least another 5 El Paso wrestlers on my big board that aren’t mentioned.  I would venture to say that all 4 placers here could be on the podium at state.

Region II #4 Hass is the man to beat here.  Hass should have an easy trip to state as I don’t see anyone challenging him at regionals.

Region III Has your state champ Wiginton and #3 Rucker the 5th place finisher.  Wiginton’s only loss this year was recently to 6A Darwin Hull, I believe the score was 6-5 decision.  #8 Emiliano Saucedo of Wylie East could be a real surprise here a returning state placer himself as well as #10 Joshua Wenger of College Station.  #13 Chris Mapp of College Station A & M Cons won’t be left out either.

Region IV All the wrestlers here are at the top end of the ranking board so there could be a lot of opportunity for someone to emerge from the ashes.  #11 Rome Esquivel of Leander Glenn, and #12 Jefferson Guerrero of Dripping Springs will be your top 2 wrestlers here with #14 Josef Davis of CC Veterans Memorial .  Guerrero and Davis are both returning state qualifiers.

#1 ranked Branson Britton of Canyon Randall the returning state runner up here is the man to beat unless he goes to 182. #2 Cullen Davee of Argyle is the returning 3rd place state finisher while #3 Jakob Underwood of Lucas Lovejoy is the returning state 5th place finisher.  Davee beat Underwood last year in the state consolation semi finals.  6 others are state qualifiers.

Region I is double AA and state runner up Britten’s region and will be the man to beat.  #8 Victor Gutierrez of Hereford won his way into the rankings this past week. Caleb Wall of Canyon, Andy Maymi of El Paso Hanks, Victor Santillan of El Paso High, and William Rodriguez III of El Paso Austin round out the top ranked wrestlers.

Region II #2 Davee the 3rd place state finisher is ruling this region.  Frisco Lebanon Trail has 2 wrestlers ranked.  #5 Caleb DeRusha who hasn’t wrestled since mid Dec might not even be wrestling, but #7 Max Hampton dropped from 182 to 170 and has been here since mid January with only 3 losses for the season shown on track.  #9 Jacob Redenbaugh of Frisco Centennial is a senior and state qualifier. This leaves a spot open and there is a lot of wrestlers just below the ranking mark.

Region III Has 5 ranked wrestlers, 3 are state qualifiers and one 5th place finisher.  #3 Underwood of Lovejoy and #4 Brahn Howard of Richmond Foster lead the way here but #6 Anthony Apodaca of Pflugerville Weiss would like to avenge his CFISD loss to Howard earlier this year.  #11 Isaiah Pedack of Highland Park and #12 Cameron Collier of Willis top off the ranked wrestlers.

Region IV #10 Joel Garza a senior of Edcouch-Elsa is a returning state qualifier and the highest ranked wrestler from region 4.  Malaunte Thompson of San Antonio Highlands, George Willemin of Uvalde, Aaron Gonzales of CC King, and Santino Pascual of Mission Sharyland  are all ranked 16-20.

This weight is wide open for the newcomer to the state podium with only 2 returning state placers and 2 returning state qualifiers.

Region I Has 6 wrestlers all in a group and in order with no returning state qualifiers.  Starting at #11 with Christian Vega of Boys Ranch, Joseph Cortez of El Paso Austin, Val Majerczyk of El Paso High, Ky Sandoval of Lubbock Monterey, Cornelius Randall of El Paso Burges, and ending with #16 Anthony Gandarilla of El Paso Eastwood.  Who wants it the most?

Region II #2 Michael Holly of Grapevine has been on the winning side which is why he has been voted to the #2 ranking spot over state placers and qualifiers.  Region 2 isn’t very deep in terms of ranked wrestlers so look for under the radar wrestlers to emerge here. Other then Holly you have #7 Jon Bray of Frisco Centennial who will battle for the regional title.

Region III Langston Mayrant of New Waverly is the #1 wrestler for the weight and returning state 3rd place finisher with his only loss coming to injury time.  #4 Corbin Adams of Georgetown had lost earlier in January to Mayrant and will be looking to avenge.  #9 Alexis Vejar of College Station A & M Cons has only 1 loss to a 5A wrestler this season and hasn’t met up with Mayrant or Adams as of yet.  Does Vejar have what it takes to win regionals? Looking for the 4th spot is Zeb Fulmer of Winnsboro and Joshua King of Willis.

Region IV #3 Ronald Caldwell of Cedar Park is the real deal here. His only real loss is in the finals match at Texas Outlaw against an Oklahoma wrestler and Caldwell is the other returning state placer in this weight class placing 5th last year.  following close in the top 10 are also #5 Jacoby Hines of Leander Glenn, #6 Erasmo Uresti of Edcouch-Elsa, and #8 Omari Frazier of San Antonio Veterans Mem.  Hines is the only guy to have faced Caldwell this season.  Uresti of Edcouch maybe going by first name Ross? If so then #20 Austin Wayne of Rio Grande City Grulla has a win over him recently at the grapefruit bowl tournament.  Luke Norton of Dripping Springs, and Antonio Garcia pf Corpus Christi Moody, I wouldn’t be surprised to see on the road to state.

The returning state champ from 182 #1 Aiden Jean of Justin Northwest is the favorite at this weight but #2 Kallon Guyton of Leander Glenn is a returning 4th place state placer at this weight.  Then you have #3 Corbin Phelps of El Paso Hanks whose only loss of the year is to the #1-6A Wrestler and is also a returning state 6th place placer,  plus an All American last summer at Fargo.  #4 Mason Ding of Carrollton Creekview rounds out the top 4 with a wrestler from each region represented at the top. Also there is 6 other returning state qualifiers as well. look for some fireworks at this weight.

Region I Starts of with #3 Phelps of El Paso Hanks who could be challenged by #5 Gavin Gates of Dumas also a state qualifier. Following Gates is #9 Kale Farrington on Canyon Randall who is in the same district as Gates.  Then comes #13 Jakarta Staten of Ft Worth Boswell.

Region II Is Aiden Jean all the way baring any mishaps.  #6 Arian Sejdini of Frisco Centennial shouldn’t be counted out as his only 5A loss of the year is to #4 Ding.  After Jean and Sejdini its anyones guess with the remaining 4 wrestlers in the top 20.  Josh Yorek of Burleson Centennial, Alex Zavala of Frisco Heritage, Braiden Rexroat of Argyle, and Caden Holland of Grapevine looking to fill the next 2 spots.

Region III Mason Ding the returning state qualifier of Carrollton Creekview is the man to beat here.  Ding also has a win over a common opponent Maurico Trevino of 6A Lake Travis who has beaten #2 Guyton in OT which will be reflected in the rankings next Wednesday.  #13 Liam Wallace of College Station A & M Cons and #17 Cain Brentnall of Princeton will give Ding a try leaving room for one more wrestler to emerge in this region.

Region IV Is Kallon Guyton’s area but he will have some competitors looking to knock him down.  #7 Jonah Morales of Cedar Park, #8 Roel Resendez of Rio Grande City, and  #9 Jonathon Rios of Roma will try just that.  Don’t count out #10 Colby Collins of Dripping Springs or #12 Easi Sierra of San Antonio Wagner either.

We got 2 returning 3rd place state finishers here at this weight with 5 returning state qualifiers. Kaleb Tompkins of Midlothian and Ben Bell of Cedar Park were the state placers.  Park was at 285 last year. Region 1 is loaded with 9 ranked wrestlers.

Region I Has 6 wrestlers in the top 10 and 9 over all in the top 20.  #3 Jeff Jackson of Amarillo is the top guy today followed by #4 Jeremiah Norris of El Paso Parkland, #5 Liam Pryor of El Paso Chapin, #6 Koby Camacho of El Paso High, and #7 Devin Offutt of Lubbock Monterey.  #15 Jason Lund of Azle looked real good winning the Panther Classic  and only has 1 loss and that’s too #1 Tompkins in sudden victory.  Lund is my dark horse to raise to the top here.

Region II Is #1 Kaleb Tompkins is the clear favorite here but #8 Prince Ugoh of Frisco Liberty and #9 Michael Cortex of Frisco Centennial are close in the mix.  Connor Hostetler of Burleson Centennial has been coming o as of late as well.

Region III Has #11 Hayden Nofziger of Melissa a returning state qualifier as the top guy at this region then #14 Ryan Aamodt of Friendswood is the other contender leaving room in this region as well for new comers.

Region IV #2 Ben Bell of Cedar Park the other state placer is the only top 10 wrestler here leaving lots of room for the newcomers to punch their tickets to the big show. #15 Ethan Garza of Sharyland Pioneer is the next wrestler in line.

The big guys are still led by state champ and 3x state placer #1 Chidoze Nwankwo of Richmond Foster.  #2 Marshall Hodges of Midlothian a returning 5th place state finisher himself will be looking to dethrone the champ.

Region I #3 William Bennett of Ft Worth Boswell is the main man here with several wins per track over #6 Quincy Mason of Saginaw.  #14 Joesph Immedialto of El Paso Eastwood hasn’t seen anyone outside of his area except at Cy Fair where his only loss was too Hodges.  His only loss of the year. Immedialo’s record including forfeits is like 53-1. Thats crazy for a 285lber.  Most would be lucky to have 25 matches all year. Like I said earlier Coach Vasquez has his team on the right Kool Aid.

Region II Has Hodges ruling this region with #4 James Medin of Dallas Wilson and #5 Caden Barnett of Justin Northwest looking to upset here.  #7 Fredrick Hardy of Dallas Carter and #8 Richard Madrid of Frisco Independence round out the top 10 making this region not a give me.

Region III Is the Champs region Nwankwo, he could be challenged by #9 Dacarius Cook of Princton, #10 Martin Cortina of Georgetown East View, or #15 Mason Cox of College Station the only top 20 ranked guys here.

Region IV Has top 20 ranked wrestlers in #11 Antonio Mendoza of Corpus Christi Ray, #12 Devin Agado of Corpus Christi Carroll, and Aiden Butler of Leander Rouse will all battle here for the top spot.
