There is something about the smell of freshly rolled out wrestling matts and matt cleaner that starts my morning off right. I love watching the teams funnel in and strategically spread out across the bleachers. Fans wanting to claim their piece of bleacher real estate are willing to sacrifice a couple hours of extra sleep for location, location, location. The smile on a wrestler’s face is amusing as they fill their gas tanks with the food they dreamt about the night before. I have a lot of favorite things when it comes to wrestling but my top two most inspiring are the singing of the National Anthem and a humble prayer between families, teams or an individual standing matt side.
I don’t know if there is a better bang for your buck than the Texas Ladies Outlaw tournament! Top tier wrestlers from Texas and surrounding states. Guaranteed matches in the pools on day 1. Every wrestler gets (2) days of wrestling, with Day 2 offering a chance to redeem, define, or redefine yourself.Â
First, let’s start off with the 100lbs weight class:
DAY 1: The first Day of wrestling at the Ladies Outlaw tournament did not disappoint us spectators as the day was filled with confirmed predictions and upsets along the way.
100lbs Seeding and first day results.
- Jubilee Rendon (EP Franklin) 2-0 all wins by Fall.
- Rilee Harrison (Austin Vandergrift) 2-1 Fall, Fall, Dec.
- Mattie Givens (Allen Blue) 2-0 all wins by Fall.
- Sadie Rodriguez (Frisco Mem) 3 -0 all wins by Fall
DAY 2: Wrestlers had a 1lb weight allowance going into day 2. How each wrestler manages themselves for a 2 day tournament is a little different. I don’t believe there is a perfect combination that guarantees winning results, but wrestlers by in large are driven by routine, and I’ll bet if you ask each one individually, they feel their routine is the magic combination. First day seeding and results do not guarantee anyone the coveted 1st Place plaque. Hope is in the air and this is pretty much anyone’s time to shine. What a great day for surprises, upsets, and the opportunity to let Texas know your name! “WHY NOT ME!” is a wrestler’s statement… not a question!
Finals match and results by weight:
