Texas Outlaw Recap

The Texas Outlaw came to a close Wednesday with Allen winning the tournament by a large margin. Katy HS came in 2nd narrowly over Commerce HS of Georgia by 5 points followed by Deer Creek HS of Oklahoma.  Allen had 618.  Katy had 475.  Commerce had 470.  Deer Creek had 453.5.

Once again Allen had a well ran tournament with Mat Control and the their booster club, with Nearfall in the house selling the Outlaw tournament shirts and apparel.

There was a lot of great match ups, upsets, weight changes.  We will go weight by weight for the Recap

106– It was an all Allen final with Braxton Brown breezing through the tournament with no trouble.  Brown meet up with Kade Moore an incoming freshman who has been on the JV team thus far in the finals.  Moore who is unranked beat the #4-6A ranked Jacob Smith of College Park by major 15-1 then in the semi finals beat #2-5A Diego Serna of Sharyland Pioneer 14-2 to meet up with Brown who got the fall in the 3rd period.  Serna and Smith both with falls in the consolation semi finals met for 3rd where Serna got the 6-3 decision.

113– It was an Oklahoma wrestler taking the championship, JJ Gilbert of Deer Creek HS edged out the state champ from Georgia, Dawson Legg by 5-4.  Jackson Crandall of Katy placed 3rd with a 2-0 decision over a Glen Pool HS wrestler from Oklahoma Mike Edwards.

120-Was a match between 2 state placers, Tyson Stevens of Glen Pool and Bryson Flint of Commerce with Stevens getting the fall in the 2nd period.  Remy Jacobs of Vandegrift was the top Texas wrestler getting 3rd over Tyler Silman of Katy by a 6-4 decision. Silman had a 2-1 decision over Cade Morgan of Plano West, Morgan defeated Logan Vasquez of Arlington who dropped from 126.  The 120 rankings will have a lot of changes.

126– Everyone here was expecting a 113 state finals rematch between Noah Gochberg of Vandegrift and Gabe Martinez of Allen.  Well Gochberg did his part and defeated Brandon Diaz of Katy in the semi finals but Martinez dropped a 3-0 decision to Cade Manion a state placer himself from Deer Creek HS in Oklahoma.  Manion went ahead to defeat Gochberg in the finals 3-1.  Martinez had a close battle with Brandon Diaz of Katy for 3rd winning 1-0.

132– Luke Sloan of Vandegrift was the surprise here albeit not to him.  Sloan ranked #6 at 138 drops down here to go through Nate Harkins of Southlake Carroll, Luke Holland of Katy, and then wins a 4-3 decision over Joe Zamora of Kennedale Academy.  Zamora had beaten #2 ranked Noah Yeamans of Allen in the semi finals in TB 1 3-2.  Yeamans gets 3rd place.

138- Trent Dooley of Allen never went passed the 1st period of any match except 1 going 1;13 into the 2nd period.  Dooley defeated  Oklahoma state placer Parker Wright of Deer Creek by fall in 24 seconds.  Ashton Corbishley of College Park battled through the crowd and place 4th.

145– It was the Chase Warden show of Dripping Springs.  Warden also won the MOW for the lower weights.  Warden won by fall every match including the Deer Creek wrestler in the finals Micah Lugafet.  Truman Timmons of Katy got the best of Allen’s Alejandro Cavazos 12-4 in an exciting match placing 3rd, Cavazos 4th and Josh Thomas of College Park 5th.

152-It was Georgia in the house.  Tucker Flint a 3x state placer from Commerce wrecked the 152lb field by pinning everyone including Mario Danzi of Allen in the finals.  Danzi’s #1 ranking should stay in tack as Danzi won by fall over all the other Texas wrestlers except #5 Jacob Kelske of Katy who placed 3rd,  their paths never crossed. Flint also won the MOW for the upper weights of the tournament.

160– It was a repeat of the 145-6A state finals match between Daniel Manibog of Katy and Elise Brown Ton of Allen. The outcome was still the same with Manibog winning but this time with a 12-4 major instead of a 54 second fall.  Not the outcome Brown Ton wanted but indeed improvement.  Quinn Wilkerson of Southlake Carrollton gets a 4th place finish behind Nick Patrick of Commerce.

170– Look out here, Katy has a real deal here with KiShawn Higgins now 27-0 with his toughest match coming from a #1 prep ranked McKinney Christian wrestler Rex Collins who he narrowly beat 7-6 in the semi finals.  Higgins got the tech fall in the finals over Jake Frates of Commerce.  Collins came back to take a 3rd place finish.

182-JaMarcus Thomas of Bryan HS showed his 5A state placing can compete in the 6A.  Thomas went undefeated in the tournament and beating Nate Dooley of Allen with a last second take down to win the 182 finals match 7-6.  Juan Grange a frosh of College Park found his way to a 3rd place finish beating Josh Frates of Commerce for 3rd.  Grange revenge a 3-2 loss to in the pools to Braxton Kernes of Glen Pool Ok in the consolation semis.

195-Carson Savage another sleeper from Deer Creek was a pinning machine including #1-5A ranked Clayton Jetton of Dripping Springs in the finals match.  RJ Carver of McKinney HS also makes the scene splitting wins with Allens Zane Davis .  Davis pinned Carver in the 1st match of the gold bracket and Carver pinned Davis for 3rd place.

220– It was the Jacob Munoz show at 220.  Munoz of Cedar Creek pinned everyone he met including Allens Isaiah Steel in the finals match.  David King of Commerce  took 3rd and 4th went to Garrick Johnson of Deer Creek.

285– Hello Grant Bordelon of Houston Strake Jesuit.  #6-6A Bordelon defeats the #1 ranked Johnny Green of Allen  in SV-1 5-3.  In the remaining seconds of overtime Green spun behind Bordelon appeared to get the takedown as they fell to the mat, only Green fell to the side and Bordelon landed more on top fand was awarded the last second takedown for the finals win.  Matt Sanders of Vandegrift came in 3rd place over Levi Pate of Commerce.
