With 6A girls rankings updated, we can now look ahead to this week’s four regional tournaments.  For the first time this season, we have a full 20-girls ranked in each weight class – so there are plenty of new names to watch.  Here is a region by region breakdown, by the numbers:

Region 1 – At the W.G. Thomas Coliseum in Haltom City, eighteen schools are competing with ranked wrestlers, led by Amarillo Tascosa, with 7, four other schools have 5. Half of the weight classes have more than four top-16 wrestlers, including 185lb, with 7.  No weight has more than 2 top-5 wrestlers – so things are pretty evenly spread.

Region 2 – At Allen HS, with only 11 schools carrying 30 ranked wrestlers, topped by Euless Trinity’s 7 – things shouldn’t be too tough on the top girls in region 2. There are less than 4 of the top-16 ranked in all weight classes, except 215, which has exactly 4.

Region 3– Things will be hotly contested at Katy Tompkins High School, host of the region 3 tournament.  Twenty five teams bring in 57 ranked girls, led by Morton Ranch with 5.  Only 119lb and 215lb have less than 4 of the top-16 girls.  138lb has no easy matches, with 7 ranked girls, and 165lb is downright brutal, with 5 ranked wrestlers including the #1, #2 and #4.

Region 4 – Things are no easier at San Antonio’s WG Thomas Colosseum with 57 ranked girls, pretty evenly spread across 29 teams led by Austin Bowie, San Antonio Johnson and La Joya Juarez-Lincoln with 4 each. Only 185lb has less than 4 of our top-16 ranked. At 148lb, the top 3 girls will be competing, and look for a #1 v #2 showdown at 215.

Good Luck to all 6A girls!
