Local wrestlers will head to the Houston area this weekend in an attempt to pin down a state championship.

Seventy-three local wrestlers have qualified for the University Interscholastic League’s state meet, which will begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday. After a two-year run in Garland, Houston’s Berry Center will host this year’s festivities.

Among the area’s state-bound wrestlers are two athletes – Dripping Springs senior Luke Hodsden and Vandegrift junior Riley Jacops – who are attempting to win a state championship for a second season in a row. Westlake junior Jack Skudlarczyk also won a state title in 2014 before last year’s third-place finish, and he has been placed in the same 120-pound bracket as Rouse junior Noah Martinez, who won a silver medal in 2015.

Vista Ridge will take an area-best 10 wrestlers to Houston, while Westlake and Vandegrift have each qualified eight wrestlers. Listed below are the area’s qualifiers for the UIL’s wrestling meet:
