With 80 boys teams and 70 girls teams, the 15th annual CFISD Invitational remains the largest event in the state. Over 1,500 wrestlers are expected to compete in 64-man brackets in all 24 weight classes, including up to 150 ranked in the top ten of their respective division and class. We expect to see some movement in the rankings and, inevitably, some new names pop into the top 20.
Although final entries and brackets will not be set and posted until Friday, Jan 6th, there promises to be some really tough competition with up to nine top-10 ranked wrestlers in every single weight class. Here is a quick preview of anticipated match-ups (NOTE: wrestlers may be entered into different weight classes than indicated, or miss the event altogether):
The Girls’ tournament could feature 63 top-ten ranked wrestlers, including eight number 1’s. The 185lb and 215lb weight classes could have the top ranked 5A AND 6A girls in the bracket:
95lb – Top-ranked (6A) Asia Ray of Arlington is joined in the bracket by the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 8th ranked 6A wrestlers, as well as 7th ranked (5A) Jaedyn Garcia of Victoria West.
102lb – 2nd ranked (6A) Daniela Salazar of Clear Springs might get a bit of a challenge from 3rd ranked (5A) Alexa Harris of Kingwood Park.
110lb – This is a very exciting bracket with 2nd ranked (6A) Chelsea Sanchez of Morton Ranch and 3rd ranked (5A) Danielle Gomez of Corpus Christi Moody joined by the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th ranked 6A wrestlers as well as the 10th ranked 5A wrestler.
