INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Central Oklahoma wrestling team is ranked No. 14 in the latest NCAA coaches’ poll, announced on D2wrestle.com Monday.
The Bronchos were unranked in the preseason rankings released in October. St. Cloud State is No. 1 in the poll.
UCO, 3-0 in duals this season, is coming off its first tournament win last weekend at the Reece White-Conklin Jet Invite at Newman University. The Bronchos signature win in its three duals is over McKendree. The Bearcats were ranked No. 8 in the preseason, and were when the Bronchos beat them 21-19 in their gym. McKendree is now up to No. 4 in the country, making the Bronchos’ win over McKendree even more valuable down the road.
Lindsey, who was named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Wrestler of the Week earlier Monday, is 18-4 on the season. He has three individual tournament titles and on Sunday beat Newman’s Dustin Reed for the Jet Invite title. Reed is ranked No. 5 in the country.
Wilson is 15-4 this season and has three falls and four technical falls in those wins. Wilson also has a win over Matt Rudy of Limestone College, who was No. 10 in Monday’s rankings.
Cotter has starred at heavyweight. He won the MIAA Wrestler of the Week earlier this season, he has three individual titles in five tournaments, and has made the final match in all five of those tournaments. Cotter, 20-2 on the season, pinned McKendree’s Coltyn Pease in the final match of the Bronchos upset in November. Pease is ranked sixth in the country. Cotter’s two losses are to Division I opponents.
UCO is next prepping for the OCU Duals. The Bronchos make the short trip down Broadway to Oklahoma City University for the OCU Duals on Monday, Dec. 21.
